LSU won and we got “N*ggas in Paris” 7 times. Epic night.

Emerging photographers, Mariana Sheppard and Nakeya Brown, will be exhibiting a new collection of photographs with Becoming Home . The exhibition features 30 photographs that aim to celebrate the often overlooked African American members of the community that has built, cultivated, and continues to maintain the grandeur along Louisiana’s River Road. Becoming Home opens Saturday, December 10, 2011 from 6pm to 9pm at the McKenna Museum of African American Art.
My sister from another mister, Mariana Sheppard has rejoined the digital age. *Crowd cheers* For those unfamiliar, I met Mariana back in undergrad at LSU circa 2007 in the quad (which would later become the official Students Against Class meeting spot). We didn’t know eachother, but I’d seen her work on Facebook and was already a fan before ever meeting her. She has a certain way of capturing things that typically go unnoticed by the average schmoe and also put my attempts at photography to shame. There was a fashion show coming up, the first fashion show for the brand actually, and I knew that I wanted her to shoot it as only she could. So I got my nerve, messaged her on the ‘book, and now she’s one of my best buds and indentured photog. Ha. In the words of Mr. West, “If you admire somebody you should go ‘head tell ‘em” and I’m already looking forward to more updates to the site. Go see for yourself and tell her The Dealer sent you.

I wish there were some sort of interesting backstory as to how/why we found ourselves in front of this place. Unless you consider getting lost and then joy riding to be a thrilling tale. We were actually looking for abandoned couches (don’t ask) before finding this baby so we stopped and snapped a few. Now let’s just hope Cador washed that shirt after this…

Josh of Fly Designs hooked himself up with some fly self-portraits wearing the Locs and Snapack. That’s what I’m talking about. Hey, when’s my closeup??
Being that summer is drawing to a close and reprints not being very often, you may want to grab a few of these tees while they’re here. Perfect timing for the “Saved by the dope.” back-to-school sale happening right now. Get 45% off err’thing by using ZACKMORRIS at checkout.

These days, you sometimes get better shots with your iPhone. I had a great time out there and before heading back to The Boot from The Carolinas, we checked out downtown and the college campuses.

UNC-Charlotte is huuuge.
No Grease Barber Academy. I think someone captioned this as “On swole.”

This is a dope print, but I just noticed you can see our goofy faces in the reflection. Haha

I’d never been to North Carolina before yesterday but it reminds me a lot of Baton Rouge. A slightly larger Baton Rouge, but you get my point. Passed by No Grease, ”not your ordinary barbershop” where Tyrus got a quick lineup and then we went to their barbershop academy which sponsored free haircuts and back-to-school supplies.

The line was wrapped around the building with guys ready to get shaaawp for the semester.

Stopped by Flava Factory, one of the boutiques out here. Regret not being able to shop around a little more.

Gathered some friends for a few more shots of Summer ’11.

Last light was pretty fuggin’ awesome. Thank you to everyone that came out; I hope that you enjoyed yourselves. I’ll be posting up more photos as I get them.
